EDWARD G. ROBINSON- “COPS AND ROBBERS”

“The Dupont Show of the Week” was an anthology show that captivated adult audiences for three seasons, from 1961 to 1964 on NBC. Edward G. Robinson hosted this installment of the show called “Cops and Robbers”, a documentary on police work throughout American History. It showed how the police system operated in 1961, and contained real footage of crime figures Al Capone and John Dillinger, among others. While E.G. Robinson’s role was an obvious result of typecasting, he appreciated the work. His career and income had suffered in the 1950’s due to his being called before the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1954, where he was questioned about his involvement in earlier years with Communist groups. While not blacklisted, his film career never completely recovered.
