THE FLYING NUN

The Flying Nun starred Sally Field as Sister Bertrille, a Nun at a convent in Puerto Rico who, weighing only 90 pounds, can fly when the winds are right and she is wearing her “cornette,” the headpiece of her habit. The show centered on the misadventures of Sister Bertrille and her life in the convent. The show developed as a way to keep the spunky Sally Field on the air after the cancellation of “Gidget.” The show started off with a bang and was considered the hit of the season, but in subsequent years, against heavy competition, the show dropped in popularity and was cancelled in 1971. Like many other young stars, the show spawned a brief singing career with the release of an album of songs from the show, sung by Sally Field herself.
