THE JONATHAN WINTERS SHOW

Jonathon Winters was given this variety show in 1967, a natural extension of his success as a character actor and creator of many bizarre personalities. He made regular appearances on the “Tonight Show” with both Jack Paar and Johnny Carson. Often, Carson would have no clue who Winters would be impersonating, having to ferret the information out in mock on-air interviews. Winters appeared in more than 50 movies and innumerable TV shows. He was one of Robin William’s idols and appeared in a recurring role as his son Mearth on “Mork and Mindy.” The beloved actor continued his comedic career into his 80’s, last appearing as Papa Smurf in 2013, his last performance. He had revealed in his comedy routines and an interview that he suffered from bipolar disorder and nervous breakdowns, and had once spent 8 months in a psychiatric hospital. Beloved to the end, Smurfs 2 was dedicated to this comic genius.
