The Price is Right

Bill Cullen was the first host of “The Price is Right” back in 1956. It was one of the only tv game shows to survive the rigging scandals of the late 1950’s, and gained popularity as others were being cancelled.

The show was the first TV game show to be broadcast in color. It was a Top-10 prime time show for some time, but its ratings gradually declined, and in 1965 it was cancelled after 9 years. The show was revived in 1972 in daytime tv, hosted by Bob Barker for 35 years, giving up the mantle to Drew Carey in 2007. The show has aired more than 9,000 episodes and 50 seasons, and as one of the longest-running network shows in history, was named “the greatest game show of all time” by TV Guide. 52 countries have created their own version of the show, as distant as Myanmar.
